Spring 1997 Symposium – The Legitimacy of Direct Democracy: Ballot Initiatives and the Law

The 1997 symposium was a joint effort with the Annual Survey of American Law. The program, entitled “The Legitimacy of Direct Democracy: Ballot Initiatives and the Law,” was a resounding success. Among the well-known scholars who presented articles at that time were Professors Mark V. Tushnet (Georgetown) and Philip P. Frickey (Minnesota). Other attendees included Professors Akhil Reed Amar (Yale), Richard H. Pildes (Michigan), and William N. Eskridge, Jr. (Georgetown).

The resulting symposium issue was published as Volume 1, Number 1.
